Short films
We teamed up with the Rural Media Company in Hereford (www.ruralmedia.co.uk) to deliver a series of film-making skills workshops with members of Hay Youth Club and Llanigon Young Farmers. The aim was to use film as the medium in which to engage younger people in the lives of those who lived around here two generations ago.
The theme of all three films is people’s memories of Market Day in Hay. The people we chose to interview all brought their own personality and prospective to the topic and the resulting films give an individual take on daily life around here in the 1950s and 60s.

Tricks of the Trade - A Hay Cheese Market Film
Brin and Carl worked in a shop in Hay. They remember the type of customers who would come into town on a Thursday and many of the humorous tricks they would employ to ensure a sale.
Nita's Story - A Hay Cheese Market Film
Nita’s Story shares the memories of Nita Jones, who grew up on a remote hill farm without any electricity or running water in the house. Nita remembers how important Market Day was to the family economy and the weekly routine of preparing produce and taking it to Hay Market on a Thursday.
Prayer - A Hay Cheese Market Film
Edith Illingsworth used to have a bible stall on Hay Market. She was in a way an early type of social worker, offering a kind ear to those who needed to share their personal troubles. She used to sing hymns from her stall that would attract a crowd and keep everyone amused.
